Hi all! Here a gray-haired software engineer willing to continue learning and sharing experiences, thoughts and ideas with anyone.
Someone recommends me this site as a place to feel again the Internet spirit of the early 2000s. And at first sight seems true! :-)
Greetings, Fernando. Welcome to the community here at DEV. Glad to have you here and look forward to learning more about your own experiences.
You're right about the vibe here - one of the few sites left with such a spirit!
Welcome to DEV and thanks for sharing your post about software complexity! I look forward to more sage advice and hope the community has something to offer you too :)
Thanks Jess! For sure that I will learn tones of new things here from the community! That is the reason why I join this place :-)
Welcome! I like that description a lot — DEV definitely brings back some of that early internet community vibe. Always great to see people who enjoy learning and sharing their experience.
DEV is best platform to engage with people and gain some valuable experience.
HI Fernando,
hi! :-)
nice to meet you
hello
hello. 👋
Hello, i'm just a gen z brazilian girl of 24 years old, discovering this world of coding and the computer backend and frontend. I am taking baby steps, hopping i can change my working career ( currently i'm in heath care area). I'm exciting, and a little lost( if i can confess haha), but i love to learn anything .
Greetings, Kesia. Welcome to the DEV Community. You might want to check out the recommended curriculum at freeCodeCamp, if you haven't already.
It goes without saying that you'll also find plenty of resources here, through posts from fellow members - junior, senior, and everything inbetween!
That's sounds great ! I'll take a look, thank you .
You're more than welcome. Hope it helps!
Wish you fun coding.
Welcome to this challenging world! :-)
I've recently been getting involved with the local startup community in my City and you'd be surprised how many people transitioned from health care! You've got this!
Hi everybody. It's not my first time here, but I've been reluctant to create an account lately because I wasn't sure my content or my interest belong here, I still am not quite sure. I mostly do embedded, and I do more engineering than pure software. While I love technology and it is my profession, I've started exploring digital minimalism as a new way to keep myself from burning out, avoid brain rot, and keep my inspiration going.
I believe technology and modern conveniences have the power to bring people together, instead of pulling them apart like they have been. I wish to change that--or, at least bring a subtle different perspective to others through my content wherever possible.
Lovely to meet you all!
Welcome to the community here at DEV, m3khanikal, or should I say welcome back! I look forward to hearing more about your journey and experiences - we'll not all webdev here I am quite sure!
Your exploration of digital minimalism sounds very interesting. I'm on a journey to migrate from Big Tech this year, which I will post about from time-to-time I am sure.
Thanks Richard! Good luck on your journey out of Big Tech.
Cheers, m3khanikal. Appreciate it!
Welcome! What sort of techniques or actions have you taken towards digital minimalism? I realized just the other day that I've actually quit social media because I genuinely cannot recall the last time I found myself doomscrolling. I was very pleased to make that realization!
Hi Jess! First of all I actively removed myself from all mainstream social medias, this alone was a harsh process that took about a year. My mood got better, but I was still over 2-3 hours a day just reading meaningless things on Reddit. That realization made me buy a dumb phone, which was admittedly a pretty extreme move. It lasted a few months but I eventually went back to my smartphone because I needed it for work.
I then replaced my phone with a dumber physical-keys Android phone. This lasted for a while longer (almost a year I'd say) until the phone started to break down (it was a cheap chinese-made QIN phone). This happened about 8 months ago and I've been with a fully fledged smartphone since, but never returned to mainstream social media.
My plan for the future is to buy one of those tiny 3" screens Android phones. I'll use it as a smartphone for whatever I need to do for work (I just need to have access to some apps, nothing more). I will probably replace it's launcher with a simple launcher to avoid distractions, and turn off all non-critical notifications.
Since music is a huge part of my life, I also want to get a dedicated music device, this way I can play hifi tracks on the go and stop dealing with music streaming platforms. I am currently searching for the perfect modern portable music player.. Haven't found one yet. Might just build one myself if I can't find anything that is worth the hassle.
Sorry for the long comment! Digital minimalism has been a journey for me, and iterations do take time to unravel and process.
Thanks for asking :)!
Sounds like you're really making progress, m3khanikal. I haven't used mainstream social media for years, and also feel much better for it. Even when I was using the Fediverse, I would only log-in via my desktop browser - never installing the app(s) on my phone.
Yeah, absolutely agree. I plan to take back my nervous system and attention span no matter what. Stopped watching the news years ago, that did my mental health absolute wonders. No mainstream social media (I don't consider forums like dev.to a bad thing), I'm on my way!
You are indeed. Strangely enough, almost the first thing I do with any new smart phone is disable any kind of news feed. Wouldn't have to do that if the algorithmic nature of the 'net didn't push negative stories to the fore but, hey, a discussion for another time and place!
Going back to Mastodon at some point but, again, not through any kind of app. Considering the Fosstodon instance this time around but we'll see what happens. Not in any rush!
Welcome!
At least you do some coding... I am here without coding background :)
Hi! my name is Gail and i'm currently looking for work, but also have opinions on pretty much everything to do with software development. I'm a 12 year industry veteran who specializes in UI architecture, revitalizing legacy codebases, and communicating between business and engineers in a way that actually works. I love learning new things and understanding how mental models work.
Greetings, Gail. Welcome to the community here at DEV. I look forward to hearing about your journey and best of luck with finding employment!
👋 Hi dev.to, I’m building Disco Chess.
Disco Chess is a chess training platform focused on implementing the Woodpecker Method in software. The core idea is simple: fixed tactical sets, repetition across cycles, mistake resurfacing, and measurable changes in speed and accuracy over time.
From an engineering perspective, the interesting problems are mostly under the hood. That includes ingesting and querying large chess datasets efficiently, working with Stockfish evaluations at scale, and turning raw user activity into longitudinal training metrics that actually reflect improvement.
Some of the supporting tooling is open source, including a Go library for fast Stockfish evaluation lookup by FEN using public Lichess data. I plan to write here about those technical pieces, design tradeoffs, and what I have learned while building and operating the system.
Looking forward to learning from others here and contributing where I can.
Very cool. I bet @peter is interested in learning more about Disco Chess!
Sure am! Welcome to the community!

That’s perfect! Didn’t expect to see the Woodpecker Method make an appearance in my intro post.
It was a big inspiration for what I’m building, so that made my day. And if you ever get tired of setting everything up on the board, there’s a digital shortcut waiting! :-)
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Looking forward to it! :)
Welcome to the DEV Community, Disco Chess! Would love to hear more about your journey building your chess training platform - as would many fellow members!
Not sure if I belong in this post, but, Hello: I am a realtor who is looking to educate myself on creating simple links into icons and other Apps, software tips, and software protection for my business. Any information I may gain is a +.

Thank your for the nice welcome, Richard. Already feel more home here :)
The personal knowledge system helps me a lot of keeping track of the tools and things I'm learning on the way. It took me some time to set it up, but once there is a foundation, expanding it goes much faster. Looking forward to hearing from you, how your personal knowledge system develops with Logseq or Zettlr.
Yes, it's why I'm looking into a similar thing. Appreciate your thoughts on it - I'll make sure I take my time setting it up. I will probably make a post about it once I get it up and running. Best of luck with your own learning journey!

Hello dev.to 👋
I’m new here, and I found this community through How to Become an AWS Community Builder
For most of my career, I worked as a technical lead in high-speed semiconductor I/O design and validation—building, testing, and debugging mixed-signal IP that shipped across a wide range of products, from servers and HPC systems to desktops, tablets, and IoT devices. Over time, what I found myself caring about most wasn’t any single circuit or interface, but the tooling, automation, and feedback loops that helped engineers see problems early and make steady progress through complexity.
That interest eventually pulled me deeper into software. I spent years writing Python-based automation for test and measurement, simplifying brittle frameworks, and working closely with global teams to turn specifications into measurable results in silicon. Along the way, I learned—sometimes the hard way—that engineering effectiveness depends as much on culture, clarity, and information flow as it does on individual technical skill.
I’m now in a deliberate transition toward software engineering, cloud-native systems, and AI. I’m currently learning through the AWS Cloud Institute and the DeepLearning.AI machine learning specialization. I’m still forming my point of view, but I’m motivated by a desire to stay current and to learn modern software engineering practices deeply—especially through hands-on experience with cloud platforms, automation, and emerging AI-assisted workflows.
I’m here to learn in public, share honestly, and connect with others who care about doing good engineering work and getting better at it over time.
Greetings, Chad. Just wanted to say, a truly impressive introduction - I'm sure you'll enjoy being part of the community here at DEV. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences!
Thanks Richard, glad to be here.
Hey everyone 👋
I’m Peace (Peacebinflow). I spend most of my time building systems, breaking them, and then trying to understand why they broke — whether that’s in code, workflows, or how people learn.
One piece of advice I keep coming back to (mostly to remind myself):
You can do everything… and still accomplish nothing.
Or you can do very little, deliberately, and actually move forward.
I’m here to learn, share where it makes sense, and sharpen how I think by seeing how others approach problems. Looking forward to connecting with you all.
Welcome!
It's actually a mindset of the champion! Keep digging and you'll become the greatest
Welcome to the DEV Community, Peace! I think your belief to do things slowly so you can actually progress will truly resonate with many of us here. Look forward to hearing more about your own journey!
Hi everyone! My name is Amanda. I'm a 33-year-old Flutter developer from Brazil. I’m here to learn more, share experiences, and meet new people. I love technology, rock music, and my little chihuahua — and if you love chihuahuas, you definitely love challenges! 😄

👋 Hello DEV Community!
I’ve finally decided to join the conversation! I’m currently on a journey to level up my technical skills and wanted to introduce myself.
🛠 What I’m Learning
Right now, I’m diving deep into three areas that I’m really excited about:
Python: Building my foundation in coding and exploring how to solve problems with scripts.
PowerShell: Mastering the art of automation and command-line efficiency.
Git: Learning how to track my progress and collaborate with the wider world.
🎯 My Goal
My goal is to transition from a learner to a builder. I’m looking forward to reading your tutorials, sharing my own "lightbulb moments," and connecting with fellow developers.
A quick question for the pros: If you were starting over today with Python and PowerShell, what is one project you’d recommend building first?
beginners #python #powershell #git #learning
Hi everyone I am a fresher backend developer(node Js) and want learn more about development and also looking for some offer to apply my skill to build something and grow. I want some guidance from you all guys
Hi all!! I'm well experienced beginner in backend development. I'm currently learning Node.js applying it directly to REST API development. And also i'm diving into Go for developing network software.
I want to share my hands-on experience because i believe that it can help others as i continue to improve gradually 👍
Hi everyone! I'm an Android developer focused on Kotlin and system utilities. I've spent a lot of time configuring network security, which led me to build 'API Control for NextDNS' — an app born out of my own need for a better way to manage NextDNS on the go. I’m here to connect with fellow developers, share my journey with Android localization, and learn more about efficient API integrations. Fun fact: When I'm not coding, I'm usually perfecting my sourdough bread recipe!
Here to learn. Starting out my dev journey. Seems a little overwhelming but I thought I will give it a go. An MCU/DCU fan (heartbroken to know that techs in comic-verse is far from achievable 😔). Always willing to learn and happy to get corrected. Tough love is not only expected but prefered. 😜

Hey Everyone! I'm mainly a web developer (I consider myself full stack but still improving) who loves creating apps, gaming, dogs, and coffee. And my girlfriend (In case she sees this LOL).
I'm super passionate about creating things in general but especially apps, as I find the endless possibilities of what you can make, super exciting and such a great creative outlet.
I've had a very rocky road with learning web development and coding overall, going through tutorial hell, thinking it's not for me, endless challenges but at the end of the day I always came back to it and now I've been remaining rather consistent and I'm proud of that.
I've found that video tutorials are still how I learn best but I leave a course for days or weeks at a time to put what I learn into projects and this has been a huge game changer in getting better.
I came here to connect with other devs who also love doing this and I'd love to showcase my projects and see others!

Hit me up if you’re into foreign trade tools or promoting tech products! 🚀
Hi everyone. I got here when trying to solve a problem yesterday - I don't actually remember what it was, unfortunately. I'm on a trip helping some friends with their computer, internet, and phone setup and it's been a whirlwind - fixed two computers, set up a new one, switched them from an expensive Spectrum account to a more reasonable Frontier one, set up their home phone with US mobile, helped with an issue on their car, etc. Quite the week.
Anyway, I have worked with computers since the late '70s, got a Masters in Computer Science in the early '80s, worked in Process Control and Embedded Processing for many years, and have been doing website development/design/hosting/maintenance as CWG Services for the last 25 or more years.
I'll probably lurk more than I post for now. I'm in the process of moving my VPS from a managed account to an unmanaged server so I'm learning a lot right now. Both are using Interworx which I highly recommend to anyone with similar needs.
Hi everyone! this is sunil a cs student learning to code and to build that will bring change to the tech world.

After years of working for real systems, I started writing about the ones that deserve more attention. Always looking for new topics and tools worth exploring.
Looking forward to posts and discussions here — dev.to vibes remind me why I got into tech in the first place.
I am a 29-year-old software development engineer. When I first started learning software, I didn't understand many conceptual things. It wasn’t until after a year of studying and grasping programming thinking that everything suddenly clicked for me. That's why I developed a tool that allows users to promote a drag-and-drop work module to assemble custom functions. I want to help those who want to get started but don’t understand how code works to more quickly understand how programming operates, making it easier and faster for them to get started. With this tool, you can not only create the functionality you want, but also share your results with others to exchange ideas and learn from each other. Long live the spirit of the Internet!
Hey all! I am a developer starting to learn to become an AI Software Engineer! I heard about this site and thought it would be a great idea to start blogging on my journey to become an AI Software Engineer!
I found this website to be helpful (roadmap.sh/ai-engineer). If there are any suggestions such as any tips/tricks and such, I would love to hear from you!
Hello everyone. Machine learning engineer and researcher with passion for chromatin biology and precision medicine (cell therapy, cancer immunology).
Halted my career due to an accident. Last month gave my first steps (not metaphorically; yet no drama)! Brain is intact (they had their chance...muah haha).
If you'd like to join a slow-paced project aimed towards ML/DL stats standardization, or enjoy chromatin biology and want to start something amazing. just say hey.
Hi everyone! I am Luigi, a 13th grade computer science from Italy with a strong passion for programming. Lately my main interests revolve around web dev, game dev and small CLI tools development. My language of choice is currently C++ (as it's the one I have the most experience in, almost 2 years now), but I am looking forward to delve in Go.
The community on this site seems amazing. Looking forward to learn from you all and share my projects and experiences!

Hi everyone,
I’m a software engineer who spends a lot of free time tinkering with side projects. This could be anything from Java and Electron desktop apps to search engine experiments.
I wanted to try my hand at short-form writing and thought this seemed like a good place to do it. Nice to meet you all.
Greetings! My name is Wande Shibiru Alemayehu. I might have the gray hair of a veteran dev, but I still have the mindset of a student. I miss the era of the internet where people actually talked to each other and shared ideas freely, and I’m told this is the place to find that again. Looking forward to some great conversations and shared experiences! :-)"
Hi everyone! I am a long-time software engineer and have been building internet and digital products for years. Lately, I've been working on my own Startup! Our team is making this AI app builder more developer-friendly.

Hey, I'm Vicente. I study finance and software dev. Right now I work as a support analyst, but I want to focus 100% on programming. I'm learning all I can to make the switch to a developer role. It won't be easy, but I'm on the grind!
Hi guys, newbie here. I'm actually an IT project manager but love to be in the community of devs so I can better understand the work. Happy to connect and learn from everyone here.
hii, a lazy dev here 👋
(and by lazy, I mean I build systems so I don’t have to repeat the same work again and again)
I’m building Renblox — a developer platform for reusable website blocks, a visual page builder, and motion-driven UI for Next.js projects.
I share things I’m actually building and breaking:
· Faster ways to ship websites
· Reusable component systems
· Next.js + Tailwind + ShadCN workflows
· Real mistakes, real fixes, real lessons
No fake productivity. Just tools, experiments, and results.
If you care about working smart, not rebuilding the same UI forever, Welcome, glad to have you here.
